Accurate, Automated solution

Axiomatic work with a great number of artistic and charitable organisations, so when the British Film Institute approached with a requirement for footfall counters, we were very happy to help.

The BFI is a film and television charitable organisation which promotes and preserves film-making in the UK. The BFI National Archive is one of the most important TV and film collections in the world, with over 11,000 titles.

Previously the BFI used manual and beam footfall counters which were inaccurate and time consuming and wanted to move to a more accurate, automated solution with cloud-based reporting.

First Steps

Following an initial exploratory meeting to find out more, we established that the BFI had previously used inaccurate and time consuming manual and beam counters.

They also had a wide range of locations with differing ceiling types and heights, some with cabling challenges.  The BFI provided site photographs and measurements.

Axiomatic put together a proposal for overhead time of flight footfall counters to monitor numerous and varied areas within the Southbank venue.

These included the Lightbox entrance, Riverfront Bar, Shop and lobby entrances.  These were installed by Axiomatic engineers

The Solution

This type of technology was chosen as it would provide much more accurate and reliable counting.  It would also be unobtrusive being ceiling mounted and would offer the option of cloud-based reporting, thereby removing the need for the BFI to supply and maintain a server for a more streamlined setup.

Expansion

Since the initial installation, the BFI has expanded their system, adding counters at the Library, Café and IMAX cinema.  These have all installed by Axiomatic engineers.

The BFI presented us with a wide range of locations, with high ceilings, wide entrances, cabling challenges and different ceiling types.  By adopting a consultative approach, we were able to successfully install a system that has met the customer’s needs and continues to work well.
